Jaipur man to walk free from Pak jail after 36 years
Jaipur: A man reported missing from Jaipur for the past 36 years will be released from Pakistani jail on Monday. Gajendra Sharma was traced in May in Kot Lakhpat Jail, Lahore.
Union minister of state for external affairs V.K. Singh on Thursday told this to Gajanand’s family which met the minister with BJP MP from Jaipur Ramcharan Bohra and Hawamahal MLA Surendra Pareek in New Delhi on Thursday.
Gajananad had gone missing from a small village in Jaipur’s Samod area in 1982. It is not clear how crossed the border and reached Pakistan. “We have no idea how my father disappeared from village and how he landed up in Pakistan,” Gajanand’s son Mukesh, who s works in family welfare department, said.
Gajanand’s wife Makhani Devi, who is now 70-years old, is illiterate. Makhani had lost all hope to see her husband Gajanand alive after he disappeared 36 years ago.
Sharma’s wife said her husband worked as a labourer and had left home without informing anybody. Since his disappearance, she had started working as a peon in a private hospital.
Makhani and her two sons left stunned in May this year when a cop approached for the verification of nationality of Gajananad who is in a Pakistani jail.
The MEA sent a query to the state intelligence to confirm the nationality and whereabouts of Mr Sharma on May 1. The CID then forwarded the query to Samod police. But Sharma’s family had left the village and moved to Jaipur’s Brahampuri area. The police finally confirmed Gajanand’s presence in the Pakistan jail.
